Wa(ter) (Shia)tsu
by Tom Cooley Watsu is a form of aquatic bodywork developed in 1980 by Harold Dull at Harbin Hot Springs in California. The work arose from his taking the stretching and bodywork from the Zen shiatsu classes which he taught at Harbin, into the body temperature hot springs. Since 1980 Watsu has spread around the world and is now offered in a variety of settings, both clinical and spa, and has been found to have many therapeutic benefits as well as being a wonderfully relaxing modality. Watsu combines bodywork, stretching and movement while being floated, supported and held in the warm water. |
