The End of Overeating

Purchase Copy: The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite

bunMost of us know what it feels like to fall under the spell of food - when one slice of pizza turns into half a pie, or a handful of chips leads to an empty bag.

But it's harder to understand why we can't seem to stop eating, even when we know better. When we want so badly to say "no," why do we continue to reach for food?

Dr. David Kessler, the dynamic former FDA commissioner who reinvented the food label and tackled the tobacco industry, now reveals how the food industry has hijacked the brains of millions of Americans. The result?  America's number-one public health issue.

Dr. Kessler cracks the code of overeating by explaining how our bodies and minds are changed when we consume foods that contain sugar, fat, and salt. Food manufacturers create products by manipulating these ingredients to stimulate our appetites, setting in motion a cycle of desire and consumption that ends with a nation of overeaters. The End of Overeating explains for the first time why it is exceptionally difficult to resist certain foods and why it's so easy to overindulge.

Dr. Kessler met with top scientists, physicians, and food industry insiders. The End of Overeating uncovers the shocking facts about how we lose control over our eating habits--and how we can get it back. Dr. Kessler presents research, along with what is sure to be a controversial view inside the industry that continues to feed a nation of overeaters--from popular brand manufacturers to advertisers, chain restaurants, and fast food franchises.

For the millions of people struggling with weight as well as for those of us who simply don't understand why we can't seem to stop eating our favorite foods, Dr. Kessler's cutting-edge investigation offers new insights and helpful tools to help us find a solution.  There has never been a more thorough, compelling, or in-depth analysis of why we eat the way we do.

The End of Overeating Review by Tess Bunnag

Fat Loss or Weight Loss?
Weight loss has always been equated with not eating as much to drop those extra pounds. Sure, consume less calories, and the number on the scale will go down quickly, but only for a while. Of course, the reason for this rapid decline in the numbers on the scale is because you are losing both muscle and fat.

Since refined sugar weakens the immune system and has actually been implicated in a number of serious diseases, let's replace this nonfood with real food.

That so called "sweet tooth" is generally an indication that their is a Vitamin B deficiency- these cravings for sweets generally disappear when adequate amounts of a natural source of Vitamin B complex, such as nutritional yeast, are taken.

Mother nature in her infinite abundance and wisdom provides us with a wide array of fruits to satisfy our needs for sweets so when the need or urge arises why not try:

Fruit concentrates using fruits such as pears, pineapple, grape, and peach juices to sweeten drinks, cookies, cereals, candy bars, and even chocolate sauce.

Apple juice is a great sweetener for lemonade and herbal teas.

Feeling Good vs. Being Healthy
Many of us today judge how healthy we are by how good we feel. Unfortunately, this is a very poor indicator of just how well our bodies are working. Many diseases quietly progress without symptoms until it is too late. Therefore, if we can’t judge health by how we feel, how do we know how healthy we are.

Let’s define just what health is.
Tabor’s medical dictionary defines health as “a condition in which all functions of the body and mind are normally active”. The World Health Organization goes further, they define health as “a state of complete physical, mental or social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. As we can see, a lack of symptoms does not constitute health. In order to be considered “healthy” you must be in good physical and mental condition.

The keys to health.
There are essentially five essential aspects to maintaining or achieving a healthy lifestyle.

Better Spreads- Try Hummus Instead of Butter
Take it from the top. Everything's better without butter on it!

One Tbsp of regular butter with salt can have as much as 11g of fat; 7g sat., 100 cal., 30mg of cholest., and 85mg of sodium. Clearly, toast isn't as innocent as you thought.

On the other slice, 1 Tbsp. of hummus has only 1g of fat; 0 sat., 23 cal., 0 cholest., and 53 mg of sodium. With figures like that you can almost lay it on thick!

Spread the word. Hummus isn't just for dipping anymore!
