Chiropractors are bio-mechanics, or mechanics for the body.
Doctors of chiropractic are licensed healthcare professionals trained to restore normal motion and relieve the pain of neuro-musculo-skeletal (nerve, muscle & joint) problems by freeing locked joints, restoring alignment and balancing body motion and function to reduce mechanical stress.
Pain, poor posture and unbalanced motion results in compensation which may temporarily relieve pain but stresses joints, muscles and ligaments.
Over time muscles and joints stiffen resulting in joint breakdown, arthritis, and chronic pain. Even nerve function is lost as we become trained to "Move Old".
Chiropractors relieve the pain of musculo-skeletal (muscle & joint) problems by freeing locked joints, restoring alignment and balancing body motion to reduce mechanical stress.
In addition to treating patients for back and neck pain, many chiropractors promote improving body alignment and motion to relieve irritation of the nervous system. The body is controlled by the nerves, so restoring normal nerve function may actually promote keeping a body functioning better and healthier.

Just like a fever is the result of an infection and not the cause of the illness, back spasms are a symptom, not the cause of a back problem.
The spasm is caused by irritation of nerves controlling the spinal joints and discs. These are the same nerves which control muscle contraction in the back. If the nerves are irritated, they produce pain and reflex spasm. A spasm is the body's way of stopping motion to protect an injured joint.
The body can sustain a spinal injury from one big trauma (such as an auto accident) or by the buildup of many small traumas (such as long term unbalanced posture from working on a computer, lifting, or other activity).
Restoring normal motion and allowing the body to first heal, and then move differently, is the most effective treatment. |

Do you send your child off to the first day of school with a brand new backpack tossed over his or her shoulder? Although backpacks have become as common as pencils & paper in schools across the nation, you may want to think twice before your child leaves for school each morning. While carrying a backpack may seem harmless, it can cause some health problems, including back and neck problems that may or may not be painful. Such problems may have drastic long-term implications if the results of these poor habits are left uncorrected.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) usually begins with occasional hand and wrist numbness. Most people ignore CTS when it is in its early stages. Over time, the numbness persists and turns into pain and hand weakness.
People at risk for CTS include computer operators and anyone who performs a repetitive hand motion frequently.
Early detection and treatment is important. Since different people have different pain thresholds, it’s best to be screened by a trained professional.
A doctor of chiropractic can help determine if a problem is on its way to CTS, or a temporary, mild ache from overuse. See Upper Extremity Posture Problems

If you keep the body moving symmetrically, joint stress is minimized. Moving "weird" stresses joints, and sets up a body for problems.
In addition to chiropractic manipulation to align skeletal structures, focused motion exercises consisting of coordinated muscle strengthening exercises and preventive stretching exercises before activity can keep motion balanced, reducing abnormal joint and muscle stress and strain. |

There is much controversy surrounding the care and treatment of the child diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD/ADHD). Drugs designed to control these children are dangerous, unpredictable and subject to abuse. More importantly, they don’t address the real problem. Drugs like Ritalin® do not get to the cause of the problem, they merely cover the symptoms, temporarily making the child “more manageable,” or worse potentially making the child a life long dependent of these drugs.
