Chiropractors are bio-mechanics, or mechanics for the body.
Doctors of chiropractic are licensed healthcare professionals trained to restore normal motion and relieve the pain of neuro-musculo-skeletal (nerve, muscle & joint) problems by freeing locked joints, restoring alignment and balancing body motion and function to reduce mechanical stress.
Pain, poor posture and unbalanced motion results in compensation which may temporarily relieve pain but stresses joints, muscles and ligaments.
Over time muscles and joints stiffen resulting in joint breakdown, arthritis, and chronic pain. Even nerve function is lost as we become trained to "Move Old".
Chiropractors relieve the pain of musculo-skeletal (muscle & joint) problems by freeing locked joints, restoring alignment and balancing body motion to reduce mechanical stress.
In addition to treating patients for back and neck pain, many chiropractors promote improving body alignment and motion to relieve irritation of the nervous system. The body is controlled by the nerves, so restoring normal nerve function may actually promote keeping a body functioning better and healthier.

Posture Economics Restoring joint motion with adjustments may be able to reduce America's $75 billion back pain bill A recent study found chiropractic care economical for treating low back pain when compared to treatment by MD or DO. Research showed the cost of care for an episode of low back pain was nearly 40% less when care was rendered by DCs, and even after adjusting for risk, care initiated with a DC were 20% less expensive than episodes initiated with an MD. Why do I feel lighter after an adjustment?
You feel lighter because you feel more balanced! Posture is how you balance your body. When you are adjusted, joints which have been unable to move in harmony with the rest of the body are mobilized. So you can balance more effectively (bio-mechanically speaking).
Try this: Take a broom, and balance it on end, straight up in the air keeping only one hand on the handle. If you keep it straight, it is easy to balance. If you let the broom lean over to one side, it gets A LOT heavier. Your posture is the same way. If you keep it balanced, it takes less energy to hold yourself up.

Car Accidents, Whiplash & Chiropractic
Most people know that if you are involved in an automobile accident it is important to be evaluated to determine if there is a soft tissue (whiplash or CAD-Cervical acceleration-Deceleration) injury. And people who want to fix the problem without using drugs to cover up the symptoms know the professional of choice is a doctor of chiropractic.

Back ache and pain are a symptom, not the cause, of a problem. Just as a fever is the result of an infection and not the cause of the illness, backaches, spasms and pains are a symptom.
D amage and stress to the spinal joints and discs irritate the same nerves which control muscle contraction in the back, so when the nerves are irritated, they produce pain and reflex spasm. A spasm is the body's way of stopping motion to protect an injured joint.

A Chiropractic adjustment is when a chiropractor uses his hands or an instrument to restore and realign joint motion. Also known as spinal manipulation (or when not in the spine-shoulder manipulation, knee manipulation, foot manpulation, etc), the chiropractor's goal is to restore full range motion and alignment.
