    Once upon a time (say in George Washington's day) a person’s life expectancy was 35 or 40 years.  If we look at our lifespan from Mother Nature’s point of view, once we are done making and raising babies and thereby replacing ourselves in the gene pool, we are nothing but a drain on food and other resources (in this, as in many things, I do not personally agree with mother nature). In life, we can (sometimes) choose our actions, but we cannot choose our consequences.
